Village Podiatry Lithonia Welcomes Dr. La’Genia Mitchell-Smith 

Patients in Lithonia, Georgia, can now visit Dr. La’Genia Mitchell-Smith with their podiatry needs. A primary podiatry specialist, Dr. Mitchell-Smith brings her warm and welcoming personality to every patient interaction.

Dr. Mitchell-Smith became interested in podiatry when she had foot surgery at 13. Having dealt with foot pain for much of her life, she understands her patients’ struggles, and she knows how great the relief can be after a successful visit with their doctor.

“I try to do as much as I can without surgery. Many patients don’t have the time to pause their life for recovery, and surgery can be particularly hard on older patients,” she says. “Of course, if we find that a patient does need surgery, I can refer them to Dr. Lawanna Monday, who works with me in the Lithonia office. She’s an amazing surgeon, and we work very well together.”

In addition to treating older patients, Dr. Mitchell-Smith considers herself a “toenail connoisseur.” She is happy to treat toenail fungus, ingrown, and flat feet. She works with her patients to ensure issues don’t reoccur. 

“Patient education is so important. I’m very thorough, so I ask about everything – all my patient’s medications, not just the ones relating to the issues at hand,” she says. “If there’s one thing I wish I could tell every patient, it’s ‘know why you’re taking each of your medications.’ I’ll go over them with you at every visit, because you may have multiple medications from multiple specialists that are doing the same thing or interacting in a negative way.”
