Being a member of the national association is more critical now than ever. Changing paradigms of healthcare require advocacy at the highest level in government and that is exactly what the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) does.

As a past president of the APMA, sure I have a bias as to the need for leadership but so do so many other physicians in the Upperline family. Dr. Brooke Bisbee, a member of our team, is being inducted as the President of the APMA on Saturday March 15th. She is just the 4th woman president of the APMA, and we are most proud of her. On Sunday March 16th, our own Dr. Patrick DeHeer of Indiana becomes the President-Elect of the APMA. Hey, a two-fer for Upperline! Dr. Leslie Campbell, another member of our team from Texas ascends to the Treasurer position of the APMA.

So many of us in Upperline have been involved in leadership in so many positions and I probably am not even aware of some of the behind-the-scenes leaders. We have a few past presidents of the APMA, me, Drs. Ira Kraus and Jeff DeSantis have also been the national president. Dr. Amber Shane of FL is a member of the board of the American College of Foot and Ankle surgeons; Dr. Joe Conte has served in several leadership positions in the Florida Podiatric Medical Association as well. Dr. Jerry Roberts has been a delegate to the APMA house of delegates for many years, served as state president and has been the Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee (CAC) rep for several years. We are rife with leaders in podiatric medicine and surgery, including chiefs of podiatry in hospitals, chiefs of staffs in hospitals and directors of residency programs.

Upperline prides itself on excellent quality medical care primarily and is changing the paradigm of healthcare delivery.
