About Dr. Cherilyn Hanna Mahase

Dr. Cherilyn Hanna Mahase is a primary care physician whose career spans nearly four decades in academic medicine and clinical practice, including faculty roles at the University of the West Indies and the University of Central Florida. A graduate of UWI (1987), she completed her residency at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center in 1996.

Her professional passion is relationship-centered primary care — guiding patients toward their healthiest, most fulfilling lives through preventive care, lifestyle coaching, chronic disease management, and stress reduction. She believes in empowering patients to take an active role in their health, and has spent much of her career doing the same for the next generation of physicians, mentoring medical students and early-career doctors with a focus on clinical excellence, confidence, and purpose.

Dr. Hanna Mahase’s inspiration to enter medicine traces back to her grandmother — a self-trained community midwife in the Bahamas who delivered and named every baby in their village. That legacy of service, compassion, and community care remains the foundation of her practice today.

Outside of medicine, she treasures time with family and friends. A new grandmother as of 2026, she is savoring every moment with her grandson and is personally committed to the healthy lifestyle principles she champions with her patients — including regular walking and mindful nutrition.
