Upperline Health Surgeon’s Pioneering Research Recognized at ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference Poster Competition
Dr. Samantha Miner won 3rd place in the scientific research and reporting category
February 20, 2023 (Nashville, TN) – Dr. Samantha Miner, podiatric surgeon at Upperline Health’s Village Podiatry Center in Smyrna, Georgia, won 3rd place in the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference Poster Competition. Her research poster submission was titled “Short-Term Results of a Hybrid Total Ankle Arthroplasty Combining a Stemmed Intramedullary Tibial Component with Chamfer-Cut Talar Dome.”
This landmark study reported on short-term outcomes with a novel approach to replacing a painful ankle joint. The study reported on using the latest technology to minimize the patient complication rate while improving the success and longevity for the implant versus other approaches.
“As innovations have been made in implant design, total ankle replacement has been gaining in utilization and popularity over the past 10 years,” said Miner. “Unlike the arthrodesis procedure, a total ankle replacement can maintain motion at the ankle joint, as well as a more normal gait.”
Miner submitted her poster to the scientific research and reporting section of the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference Poster Competition.
Only 100 posters were accepted at the conference for presentation. Miner was the lead researcher who performed the research alongside her former residency program at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA.
“We are very proud and excited for Dr. Miner and this prestigious award,” said Michael King, DPM, FACFAS, FFPM RCPS(Glasg), Chief Medical Officer at Upperline Health. “This is a great example of the education, training and experience the young physicians at Upperline possess.”
Miner has written book chapters, lectured nationally, and continues to produce research on this topic.
