About Dr. Jason Piraino

Jason A. Piraino, DPM, MS, FACFAS, is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and nationally recognized leader in surgical education and healthcare innovation. He practices with Upperline Health in Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, as Associate Medical Director, with a clinical focus on complex reconstruction and revision of the foot and ankle, total ankle replacement, minimally invasive surgery, trauma, limb salvage, and orthobiologics.

From 2013 to 2026, Dr. Piraino was Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Foot and Ankle Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine–Jacksonville, where he directed the Podiatric Surgery Residency at a Level I trauma center. He won the Excellence in Teaching Faculty Award three consecutive years and the 2019 UF Superior Accomplishment Award — the first physician in Orthopaedics to do so — and chaired UF Health Jacksonville’s Perioperative Value Analysis Team for over a decade, saving the health system millions. He previously taught at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, where he directed the Surgical Skills Laboratory and remains Adjunct Associate Professor.

Nationally, he serves on the ACFAS Board of Directors, is an ACFAS Leadership Hall of Fame inductee, and co-chairs its Post Graduate Affairs Committee. He has chaired the College’s COVID-19 Education Task Force and consensus panels on adult-acquired flatfoot, ankle arthritis, and hallux rigidus, and serves as an examiner for the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is board certified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery.

An active researcher and inventor, Dr. Piraino holds a patent for the Locking Rod Fusion System, has authored more than twenty peer-reviewed publications, and has served as Principal Investigator on ten clinical trials in orthobiologics and limb salvage. He won First Place Manuscript Award of Excellence at the 2022 ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference, has delivered more than seventy invited lectures nationwide, and has been named a Jacksonville Magazine Top Doctor.

Dr. Piraino earned his DPM from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, completing his residency there as Chief Resident. He holds an MS from Georgetown University School of Medicine and a BS from Union College.
